Top 10 Human Medications That Poison Our Pets

Although pet parents are well aware of poisons lurking around their home, many don’t realize that some of the biggest culprits are sitting right on their own nightstands. To help you prevent an accident from happening, our experts have created a list of the top 10 human medications that most often poison our furry friends. If you suspect your pet has ingested any of the following items, please call your veterinarian or the BAS Volunteer at 9396484555. And remember to keep all medications tucked away in bathroom cabinets—and far from curious cats and dogs.

NSAIDs NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen or naproxen are the most common cause of pet poisoning in small animals, and can cause serious problems even in minimal doses. Pets are extremely sensitive to their effects, and may experience stomach and intestinal ulcers and—in the case of cats—kidney damage.

Antidepressants Antidepressants can cause vomiting and lethargy and certain types can lead to serotonin syndrome—a condition marked by agitation, elevated body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure, disorientation, vocalization, tremors and seizures. Acetaminophen Cats are especially sensitive to acetaminophen, which can damage red blood cells and interfere with their ability to transport oxygen. In dogs, it can cause liver damage and, at higher doses, red blood cell damage.

Methylphenidate (for ADHD) Medications used to treat ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in people act as stimulants in pets and can dangerously elevate heart rates, blood pressure and body temperature, as well as cause seizures.

Fluorouracil Fluorouracil—an anti-cancer drug—is used topically to treat minor skin cancers and solar keratitis in humans. It has proven to be rapidly fatal to dogs, causing severe vomiting, seizures and cardiac arrest even in those who’ve chewed on discarded cotton swabs used to apply the medication.

Isoniazid Often the first line of defense against tuberculosis, isoniazid is particularly toxic for dogs because they don’t metabolize it as well as other species. It can cause a rapid onset of severe seizures that may ultimately result in death.

Pseudoephedrine Pseudoephedrine is a popular decongestant in many cold and sinus products, and acts like a stimulant if accidentally ingested by pets. In cats and dogs, it causes elevated heart rates, blood pressure and body temperature as well as seizures. Anti-diabetics Many oral diabetes treatments—including glipizide and glyburide—can cause a major drop in blood sugar levels of affected pets. Clinical signs of ingestion include disorientation, lack of coordination and seizures. Vitamin D derivatives Even small exposures to Vitamin D analogues like calcipotriene and calcitriol can cause life-threatening spikes in blood calcium levels in pets. Clinical signs of exposure—including vomiting, loss of appetite, increased urination and thirst due to kidney failure—often don't occur for more than 24 hours after ingestion.

Baclofen Baclofen is a muscle relaxant that can impair the central nervous systems of cats and dogs. Some symptoms of ingestion include significant depression, disorientation, vocalization, seizures and coma, which can lead to death.

Pulicat Lake in South-east India is a paradise for tens of thousands of wetland birds. Every year, especially in the winter months, large numbers of ducks, waders, flamingos, pelicans, storks and herons arrive at the lake to find food and seek shelter. A visit to this area gives good and unforgettable memories for everybody.

About Pulicat Lake

One of the most beautiful and spectacular wetland areas in South India is the lagoon Pulicat Lake situated on the border between the states Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Pulicat Lake is the second largest brackish lagoon on the Indian subcontinent, covering a total area of 461 square km. The lake is shallow with a mean depth of only 1 – 2 metre. During the monsoon period starting in August or September, Pulicat Lake is filled by nutritious water and large numbers of both phytoplankton and zooplankton are present in the lake. These microscopic organisms constitute essential food for invertebrates and fish. As a result, tens of thousands of wetland birds are attracted to the lake because of large amounts of food.

About 60 different species of wetland birds have been observed, and many of them come from Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Ducks and geese, storks and ibises, pelicans and cormorants, herons and egrets, gallinules and different species of wading birds. Some of the commonest wetland birds include Shoveler, Garganey, Gadwall, Marsh Sandpiper and Black-tailed Godvit. In addition, resident birds such as Grey Pelican and Open-billed Stork are present. The beautiful Painted Stork is one of the most striking inhabitants of the lakeshore. This elegant bird with its pale red face and long and yellow curved beak is not that shy and can be easily approached when it walks in shallow water searching for prey with parts of its beak submerged half-open. The most spectacular sight in Pulicat Lake during the winter period is undoubtedly the huge numbers of flamingos, one of the most bizarre and outrageous birds to inhabit the earth.

Two species of flamingos occur in Pulicat Lake during the winter season, namely the Greater Flamingo and the Lesser Flamingo. Flamingos are dependent on shallow water to feed upon algae, diatoms or invertebrates. Pulicat Lake is the most important wintering area for flamingos in Asia, probably because this lake contains food items enough to maintain a population of about 15.000 individuals. To see thousands of flamingos taking flight and moving from one site to another is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles. The most important breeding area for flamingos wintering in Pulicat Lake is probably Great Rann of Kutch in the state of Gujarat.

Many wetland birds wintering in Pulicat Lake show a variety of migratory behaviour. Some birds breeding in the temperate regions such as ducks and waders undertake long distance annual migrations, whereas birds nesting in subtropical regions undertake short distance movements. Since pressure to “develop” the world’s wetland resources increases, information from migration is important in order to protect and conserve different bird populations.

Many of the wetland birds arriving in Pulicat Lake usually come to this area year after year. This pattern is termed “site fidelity”, and this is an important feature of waterfowl migration. In many ducks, for example, the tendency for adult females to return to the natal area to breed, and for the male to disperse more widely in search of a mate, is well documented. Migratory waterfowl such as flamingos may also be highly traditional in their selection of staging areas and wintering sites, and Pulicat Lake must provide a good example in that way.

The timing of both short and long distance movements from Pulicat Lake and other wetlands is influenced primarily by changes in climate and the availability of food. Some of the ducks wintering in Pulicat Lake, for example Shoveler and Gadwall, have innate rhythms of migratory restlessness which are dependent upon the length of day. Several studies have shown that the length of day and increasing temperature are stimulus triggering the onset of the migration in a number of species. In February and March, the daily temperatures are increasing considerably and the water level is decreasing in the lake. As a result, many of the migrant birds do disappear from the wintering grounds and go to the nesting areas far north for breeding purposes.

Pulicat Lake is an example of a wetland where different purposes (e.g. feeding, breeding, resting etc.) for birds are taking place. Unfortunately, wetlands in many parts of the world continue to be lost, degraded and threatened, resulting in enormous pressures on wetland birds and other wetland biodiversity. As human influences on the earth increase, these pressures will continue to grow. Since Pulicat Lake also is facing environmental problems, such as siltation and over-fishing, it is strictly recommended to implement conservation programme for a sustainable development in this unique ecosystem. Research has to be done, and it is also important to inform people about the values of this unique ecosystem.

The topography of Indian subcontinent is so varied that it supports a wide variety of wildlife. There is a huge population of animals as well as birds living in the wild regions of the country. However, the threat of poaching, along with habitat loss, has led to a rapid decline in the population of wild animals. To reverse this trend, numerous national parks as well as wildlife sanctuaries have been set up in India. These parks and sanctuaries are serving as the natural abode of the majority of wildlife and helping in the augmentation of their population. In the following lines, we have covered almost each and every famous Indian national park and wildlife sanctuary.

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park is spread across the Vindhya hills of Madhya Pradesh, over a coverage area of approximately 437 sq km. The topography of the park is characterized by sharp ridges, surging forests and open meadows.

Bandipur National Park

Bandipur National Park is situated on the Mysore-Ooty Highway, at the confluence of Deccan Plateau and Western Ghat Mountains. The wildlife park falls under the Chamarajanagar district of the South-Indian state of Karnataka.

Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas and comes under the state of Uttaranchal. The park was established in the year 1936 and at that point of time, it was known as the Hailey National Park.

Dachigam National Park

Dachigam National Park is situated in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, at a distance of approximately 22 km from the srinagar district. It is spread over an area of 141 sq km and boasts of some of the most beautiful locales in the country.

Desert National Park

Desert National Park is located in the Jaisalmer city of Rajasthan. Stretching in the Thar Desert, over an area of 3150 sq km, the park serves as the perfect example of its ecosystem.

Dudhwa National Park

Dudhwa National Park falls under the Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated along the India-Nepal border, in the foothills of the Himalayas. Spread over an area of 490 sq km, the park stands bounded by Indo-Nepal border in north and by Suheli River in the south.

GIR National Park

Gir National Park, established in the Junagarh district of Gujarat, is spread over an area of 1412 sq km. The park holds the distinction of being the only natural habitat of Asiatic Lions in the whole world.

Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park is one of the most famous habitats of the tiger in the whole world. The park is situated amongst the Banjar and Halon valleys of the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park

Keoladeo Ghana National Park, situated in the Bharatpur city of Rajasthan, is one of the major attractions of India. There is an interesting story behind the establishment of this park.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park of India boasts of amazing wildlife as well as picturesque beauty. The park is situated in the Kamrup district of the northeastern state of Assam.

Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park is situated at a distance of approximately 96 km from the Mysore city of Karnataka. Sharing its boundary with Bandipur National Park, the park covers an area of approximately 643 km.

Nanda Devi National Park

Nanda Devi National Park is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttaranchal. One of the most magnificent backwoods of the Himalayas, the park rises to an altitude of 2,400 to 6,817 m.

Periyar National Park

Periyar National Park lies nestled in the Western Ghats, falling in the Idukki district of Kerala. The lake that constitutes a major portion of the park came into existence after a dam was constructed on the Periyar River, in the year 1895.

Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park is situated in the state of Uttaranchal, now known as Uttarakhand. The picturesque beauty and rich biodiversity of the park serve as its major attractions for both nature lovers as well as wildlife enthusiasts.

Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park forms a part of the Sawai Madhopur District of Rajasthan. The park is nestled on the intersection of the Aravalli hill range and the Vindhya hill range.

Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park lies nestled in the Aravali Hill ranges of Rajasthan. One of the most popular national parks of India, Sariska falls under the Alwar district. Once the hunting reserve of the royal family of Alwar, Sariska was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1958.

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

Sultanpur National Park falls under the Gurgaon district of Haryana. It is situated on the Gurgaon-Farukh Nagar Road, at a distance of approximately 50 km from Delhi and 15 km from Gurgaon.

Sundarbans National Park

Sundarbans National Park forms a part of the largest delta created by the Ganga and Brahmaputra Rivers. Its core area is made up of the largest mangrove forest in the world.

Valley of Flowers National Park

Valley of Flowers National Park is nestled in the Himalayan ranges of Uttaranchal. The park spreads over an area of 87.50 sq km and was declared as a national park in the year 1982.

Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary

Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of approximately 93 km from the Ahmedabad city of Gujarat. Spread over an area of approximately 4950 sq km, the sanctuary counts amongst one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in India.

Mudumalai National Park

Mudumalai National Park is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu, stretching over the forest belt between the Western Ghats and the Nilgiri Mountains. While crossing the highway connecting Mysore and Ooty, you will come across this picturesque park, which comes under the Nilgiri district of the state.

Mukurthi National Park

Mukurthi National Park is situated in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu, at a distance of approximately 27 km from Ooty. It lies on the southeastern corner of the elevated Nilgiri Plateau and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the South-Indian state of Kerala. It is also known as the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and was set up in the year 1973. Later, the sanctuary was declared as a national park.

Fauna In the forests of chittoor district, at present wild animals like tiger and panther (Panthera pardus) are present in small numbers. Sloth bear (Melursus-ursinus) is found in good numbers in all Class I reserves of the district. Wild dog (Cuonalpinus), wild pig (Suscristatus), porcupine (Hystri indica), hyaena (Hyaena striata), jungle cat (Felis chaus), jackal (Canis aureus), fox (Velpes bengaleusis), wolf (Canis lupus) etc., are the other carnivores present in the district. The commonly found herbivora present in the district include sambur (Rusa unicolor), black buck (Antelope cervicapse), chital (Axis Axis), wild sheep - (Civis cycloceros), mouse deer (Memina indica), hare (Lapium finidus) and rabbit. A number of species among birds exist in this district. Among the birds, the large grey babbler (Turdoides malcolmi), the large grey shrike (Lanius excubitor), the king crows, mynas and crows, bee-eaters, hoopoes, swifts, vultures, eagles, kites, owls, sand grouse, quails, partridges, green pigeons, pigeons and peacock are also found in the district.

Dear friends october 2nd 2008 is Gandhiji's 139th birth anniversary, i would like to remember our beloved father of nation once again on his birth anniversary.

Our beloved Bapu Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi was born in 1869 oct 2nd at Porbandhar in Gujarat state.

Once upon a time Gandhiji was studying at Rajkot school a student named Mehtab encouraged Gandhiji to eat Non Vegetarian, and he also forced gandhi to buy a Goat from the market, at last they purchased a goat, and Mehtab sent the Goat to his home for cooking.

After some time mehtab arranged lunch in the nearby forest for his friends and Gandhiji.

Gandhiji was born in a family of pure vegitarians , they never think about meat even in the dream. Mehtab and all friends ate the goat meat, and all of them forced gandhiji to eat meat, atlast gandhi eat meat.

After Mahatma Gandhi reached to home , he cried very much for eating a innocent goat, and he promised his mother that he will never eat meat once again.

Dear friends,

Each year, approximately 50 billion cows, pigs, chickens, and other innocent, sentient animals are caged, crowded, deprived, drugged, mutilated, and manhandled in the world's factory farms and slaughterhouses.

"Veal" calves are torn from their mothers at birth, chained by the neck for 16 weeks in tiny, filthy wooden crates, and force-fed an anemia-inducing liquid formula. They are deprived of their natural diet--including water, roughage, and iron--as well as exercise, fresh air, sunshine, and their mother's love.

Meanwhile, their mothers (dairy cows) suffer horribly as they are pumped full of growth hormones and perpetually impregnated for their milk. When their production slumps, they are slaughtered.

Breeding sows are kept pregnant for three years in metal "gestation crates," enclosures so small the sows cannot even turn around. Their piglets are torn away after only two weeks so the sows can again be impregnated.

Laying hens are crammed 5-7 birds into wire-mesh "battery cages" the size of a folded newspaper, which cut their feet and tear at their feathers. They are frequently starved for up to 14 days to boost egg production, a process known as forced molting. Upon hatching, male chicks are placed in garbage bags, where they suffocate slowly or are crushed under the weight of their brothers.

Animals are transported to slaughter in crowded trucks with no food, water, or protection against weather extremes. Many die in transit. Sick and injured animals, called "downers," are dragged with chains to the killing floor.

In India, traditionally, a vegetarian diet is considered to be very sober and having positive impact on our physical as well as mental health. The Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus), also known a the Lip Bear is a mammal of the family Ursidae is native to the lowland forests of India. The Sloth Bear is the only bear species classified in genus Melursus. Though originally classed as a "bear sloth" due to the shape of its claws and its arboreal habits, it was appropriately reclassified as a bear in the 1800s.

Description

The body is 150–190 cm long, covered in long, shaggy fur, ranging from auburn to black, with a distinctive "V"-shaped white mark on the chest, a whitish Snout and black nose. The snout is long with bare lips and a lack of upper incisors, adaptations for its insect-based diet. The front feet are turned inwards and have 4 inch long, non-retractable, curved claws that are adapted for digging and climbing.The males, weighing 80–140 kg, are larger than the females, which weigh only 55–95 kg. Its pugmarks very similar to a human footprint. The tail is 15-18 cm (6-7 inches) long, the longest in the bear family. Their natural lifespan is unknown, however, a captive specimen was recorded to have lived 40 years.

Reproduction

The age of sexual maturity in sloth bears is 3 years. Female Sloth Bears typically give birth to two cubs in December-early January after a gestation of 210 days. The cubs are typically born in a cave or under large boulders, where they remain for two to three months, and continue to accompany the mother for at least a further two years. Sloth bear cubs tend to travel sooner than in other bear species, and will ride on their mother's back while walking, running or climbing. Cubs will fight for space when clinging to the sow. The sow carries the cubs until they are a third of her size. The cubs attain independence at the age of 24-36 months.

Behaviour

Sloth bears are the most nocturnal of bears, though sows with cubs will often move in daylight. They do not hibernate. Sloth bears are excellent climbers, and will stay in trees to feed and rest, though not to escape danger. They are capable of jumping from distances of 10 feet, and can hang upside-down in a sloth-like manner. They mark their territories either by rubbing their flanks against trees, or scraping bark with their claws

Diet

The Sloth Bear primarily eats ants and termites, breaking into termite mounds with large powerful claws and eating the occupants. It uses its long tubular snout to blow away dirt and suck up the insects, the sounds of which can be heard from 100 meters away. It may also eat honey, eggs, birds, flowers, tubers, fruits, grains and meat. The animal's fondness for honey has caused it to be nicknamed the Honey bear (a nickname also given to the sun bear, it has been known to scale the occasional tree to knock down a bee honeycomb, which it will then enjoy on the ground below. Unlike other bears, sloth bears do not congregate in feeding groups, due to even food dispersal. When feeding their cubs, sows are reported to regurgitate a mixture of half digested Jack fruit, wood apples and pieces of honey comb. This sticky substance hardens into a dark yellow circular bread-like mass which is fed to the cubs. This "bear's bread" is considered a delicacy by some of India's natives.

Interactions with humans
Sloth bears are said to be the most aggressive and least predictable of Indian bears. Though they kill less livestock than Asiatic black bears, in some areas of India and Burma, sloth bears are more feared than tigers, due to their more unpredictable temperament. In Madhya Pradesh, sloth bear attacks accounted for the deaths of 48 people and the injuring of 686 others between the years 1989 and 1994. One specimen, known as the Sloth bear of Mysore, was single handedly responsible for the deaths of 12 people and the mutilation of 2 dozen others before being shot by Kenneth Anderson. Sloth bears attack savagely when surprised, with the majority of attacks occurring at night. They typically charge on all fours with their head held low, before rearing on their hind legs and striking at their victims with their claws and teeth onto the shoulders and temples.

Conservation
Poaching and loss of this habitat and fragmentation of available habitat are the primary threats to the survival of the Sloth Bear on the Indian subcontinent. Humans hunt the Sloth Bear primarily for its gall bladder,which is valued in eastern medicine. The Sloth Bear's current conservation status is Vulnerable.

The Indian rhinoceros lives primarily in northern India and Nepal. These massive beasts have some noticeable physical differences from their African relatives. Their segmented hide looks like a formidable coat of natural body armor. It functions a bit like one also: Flexible skin between the thicker hide "plates" allows them to shift as the rhinoceros moves.

As their Latin name Rhinoceros unicornis suggests, Indian rhinos have only one horn.

Like other rhinos, these animals have sharp hearing and a keen sense of smell. They may find one another by following the trail of scent each enormous animal leaves behind it on the landscape. An Indian rhino can move very quickly when aroused. Their charges have been clocked at 30 miles (48 kilometers) an hour. Despite their bulk, they are nimble and can jump or change direction quickly.

The Kindhearted Human

Today i would like to introduce a person, he is a kind hearted person, helped many animals till now at our home town, he is my brother and also Vice President of Our animal welfare organization, his name was Praveen Naperla, as he is my brother i know him very well and i watched him very closely, i would like to share few things about him since from his child hood.

At the age of 3 years he used to be playing with some toys at our home, one day i along with my mum brought some animal toys which will be sold in packets at shop, i gave the animals(toys) to my brother, he felt them like his friends and i used to play with him by showing and explaining about those animals, he liked the animal toy orangutan very much and he used to keep aside with him even when he is sleeping.

Since the days are going he is growing, he is at 2nd class, one day elephants has bought to our street for some local function, he is seeing the great animal and he is interested to go near that, we both went to the elephant, the mahout asked my brother to come near to the elephant, but i wont let him to go near because i am also kid at that time, at last elephant blessed us putting his trunk upon our head, and he took my brother on his back, my brother enjoyed very much.

But after coming to home he is crying very much till my mum and dad came to home from their office, he is asking them ''get me small elephant for me'', at last he is cool down, but he asked for the elephant for years together.

Since his childhood he used to help dogs and donkeys which are in streets helplessly without having even a water, my brother used to spend his pocket money for street animals, like that till now he is doing a great job for the welfare of animals, where ever he go he will visit the animal shelters and zoos and tries to help animals.

Today is an Independence Day for my country INDIA, it is a great thing for all our nation, we are living at a wonderful country, let all of us keep our hearts also beautiful by helping Animals, in my view the person one who loves animals may love his people and his nation, because the people who loves animals may have a kind heart and it will be useful to our nation.

Stop Animal Abuse

We are born in a great nation where 'Mahatma Gandhi' a great person was born, the great words of Mahatma Gandhi "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." is a wonderful words every citizen of our country and every human should be followed. In our country most of the street dogs are dying due to road traffic accidents.Today i would like to share one of my bad memory with you all. When i (Pavithran Naperla, Secretary, Bhagyanand Animal Society) was a kid i am having a dog by named Tommy, it was a female dog of Indian breed, i brought it from the street when it was a small pup, it was growing healthily and it is very good dog with an innocent eyes, one day i heard a bad news about my dog when i return from school, your dog was killed in a road accident by a bus, said by my people. i felt sad very much, i enquired about the accident, but i came to know that it was killed by a bus driver, let me explain how '' the accident area is not an highway or any other busy road, the road is always busy with people walking around, the speed of the vehicles may be around 20 kms /hour, the bus driver was drastically passed over the dog when it was crossing the road , i remember my dog was carrying pups at that time. I feel that the driver may even apply breaks till the dog may cross the road, but due to his cruel nature an innocent animal was died.
I request you to send your suggestions and comments on road traffic accidents facing animals.

Crocodile Hunter is my Role Model.

Today i would like to tell u all my rural Indians who are unaware of a great animal welfare activist who served his entire life for animals, he is my role model, he will be your's also so read about him.

Stephen Robert Irwin was born to Lyn and Bob Irwin in Victoria in February 1962. Bob Irwin was a keen enthusiast of reptiles and moved his family to Queensland in 1970 to start a small reptile park at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast. Australia Zoo became a true family business, flourishing until 1991 when Bob & Lyn retired, turning over management to their son, Steve.

Living in the Zoo, Steve grew up with animals of all kinds, taking part in the animals daily feeding, care and maintenance. His 6th birthday present was what he had always wanted – his very own scrub python! It was 3.6m (12ft) long and while most other children were opening cans of pet food for their cats or dogs, Steve was out catching fish and hunting rodents to feed to his crocodiles and snakes.

Bob taught the young Steve everything there was to know about reptiles – even teaching his nine-year-old how to jump in and catch crocodiles in the rivers of North Queensland at night. This father and son’s proud boast is that every crocodile in their Zoo (the numbering some 100 animals) was either caught by their bare hands or bred and raised in their Zoo.

As he grew older Steve followed in his father’s footsteps and volunteered his services to the Queensland Governments East Coast Crocodile Management program which saw him spend years living on his own in the mosquito infested creeks, rivers and mangroves of North Queensland catching huge crocodiles single-handed. His record of successful catches is still staggering to this day.

Since 1991, Australia Zoo has flourished and expanded under Steve’s guidance. In 1990 a chance reunion with his friend, television producer John Stainton, filming in the Zoo for a TV commercial, gave Steve the opportunity to show his diverse animal talents to the world when they both took a punt and make the first documentary, "The Crocodile Hunter" in 1992.

The tremendous success of this one program quickly encouraged the making of more and so over the next 3 years, 10 one hour episodes were made and on television screens all over the world. Steve has now filmed over 70 episodes of "The Crocodile Hunter", 53 episodes of "Croc Files", 43 episodes of “Croc Diaries” and his next television series is called “The New Breed Vets” for release in 2005.

Steve has the greatest respect and understanding for all animals – something that has been instilled into him by his family for all of his life – and he's proud to share his passion with everyone who visits his Zoo and with his five hundred million viewers world-wide.

In June 1992, Steve married Terri Raines from Oregon USA. They had met a few months earlier when Terri visited the Zoo whilst on holidays in Australia. They spend their lives together educating people everywhere to care for all of our world’s wildlife.
He died in 2006 after his chest fatally pierced by a Sting ray barb while filming in Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
